Assumption Agreement
What Is an Assumption Agreement?
An Assumption Agreement is a legal document used when property is sold, transferred, or inherited. It allows the new property owner to “assume” (take over) the existing electric service account tied to that location.
By signing this agreement:
- The new owner takes responsibility for the electric service and any obligations connected to the account.
- The cooperative ensures service continues without interruption during the change of ownership.
- Both the cooperative and the member have a clear record of who is responsible for the account.
When is it needed?
- Buying or selling a home or property served by our cooperative
- Transferring property ownership between family members
- Settling an estate or inheritance
If you are in the process of purchasing property within our service area, an Assumption Agreement helps make sure your electric service transitions smoothly.
