Let's Do it Better: Electrical Safety

Published: 3/3/2022 7:42:52 PM

Using electricity safely save lives. Learn how you can do it better.

Your browser doesn't support HTML5 video tag.

Can you feel the electricity all around you? If you said yes, then stop. You're doing it wrong.

If you ask most people, they'll tell you they have electrical safety down pat. For instance, water and electricity don't mix. Don't stick foreign objects into an electrical outlet, a toaster or the garbage disposal.

However, there's a little more for you to know. Did you know that covering power cords with rugs can cause them to overheat and catch fire? Or that extension cords are only meant for temporary use? Or that some electric wires are buried, so you should call 811 before you dig?

Let's all practice better electrical safety. Unplug by grabbing the plug, not the cord. Shut off power at the circuit before doing any electrical work. If a cord is frayed, have it properly fixed or replace it.

Come on everyone, electrical safety saves lives. Let's do it better.
